Canada and Burkina Faso Signed a FIPA

The Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) was signed by Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Ed Fast, and Burkina Faso’s Minister of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts, Hippolyte Dah, on April 20, 2015, in Ottawa.

A bilateral FIPA will provide greater predictability and certainty for Canadian investors considering investment opportunities in Burkina Faso. Canada’s objective in entering these negotiations was to secure a comprehensive, high-quality agreement which will protect investors through the establishment of a framework of legally binding rights and obligations.
