Myanmar liberalises the wholesale and retail sector
On 9 May 2018, the Ministry of Commerce issued Notification 25/2018, which allows 100 per cent foreign ownership of businesses operating in the wholesale and retail sectors (other than “small” convenience stores). However, foreign companies must meet initial investment requirements to carry out wholesale and retail trading. The required investment amounts vary depending on whether the company is in the wholesale or retail and whether it is owned 20 per cent or more by a Myanmar national.
